The SHF (French Hydrotechnical Society), under the distinguished patronage of the French Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy (MEDDE), and in partnership with IFREMER, EDF, France Energies Marines, ENSTA Bretagne and Pôle Mer Bretagne, held a scientific and technical symposium on “Marine Renewable Energy”. The programme was built around a selection of 20 presentations and some ten posters (including one on the MERiFIC project), and covered the following issues and subjects:
- The energy potential of various sectors: marine current power, tidal power, wave power, ocean thermal energy, offshore wind power, and opportunities for energy storage using marine pumped storage hydroelectric plants
- The development and level of maturity of the technologies in the various sectors
- Pre-industrial model projects and test sites, in France and internationally
- The logistical conditions for industrial-scale implementation (port infrastructure, logistics for transport and installation of equipment at sea)
- Social and environmental integration, and the impact assessment criteria for the projects
- The institutional and financial context, and the legal implications of the development of these new sectors.
MERiFIC was represented at the symposium through Parc naturel marin d’Iroise. Chloé Sotta presented a poster highlighting the actions undertaken as part of the project’s various work plans.
