A key barrier to the exploitation of marine energy resources is the lack of understanding and knowledge of key stakeholder groups, who can create effective resistance to the development of these projects. This work package therefore aims to develop tools and methods to engage with these various stakeholder groups in order to increase their knowledge of this new and emerging sector and to positively integrate them in the planning, development and installation of marine energy projects.
Task 6.1 – Review and sharing of best practice approaches
This action will analyze existing good practice in engagement with stakeholder groups within and outside the cross-border area.A report will present good practices identified.
Task 6.2 – Developing and trialling new methods
This will be based on best practices identified in section 6.1. It will define and implement activities in the two regions with different groups of actors able to influence the agenda of marine energy, such as fishermen, surfers, agencies and regional and national services. Innovative pilot activities will explore the possibilities of establishing ownership schemes enabling individuals and communities to invest in projects producing marine energy and / or potentially in the joint activity, and analyze the linkages parallel activities such as aquaculture production and renewable energy. The results of this work will feed the development of a tool engagement of stakeholders that will be created on the Internet to support other regions and communities.
